RHamill,

Lift is a 3" Rancho Suspension and the tires are 33" BFGoodrich All Terrains. Not to boast but its one of the smoothest riding lifted vehicles you'll ride in. Rancho does an excellent job.

Just get the Stock LEDS like I have

Tossed around the idea. How bright are yours, and what kind of bulbs are they?

Those covers are long gone. I put a light smoke on my stockers, cleared, wet sanded and buffed and it gave them a real nice look. If you just give your tails a light tint (just spray until they start to turn a maroon color) then I highly doubt your local cops would even notice. I did mine right on the truck, I know that this isn't the preferred way to do it, but with a little time and taping you'll honestly never know the difference. For under $20 it gave my faded out stockers new life.

Sounds good man, but if you saw my tails in person, you'd know why i don't wanna bother. I honestly want the ones in my first post since they are CHEAP, new, and would look pretty clean since my ride is black. Not sure though, the LED idea DroppedAsAChild mentioned sounds pretty good. I think I'll try that!

I would personally recommend these. Idk what your price range is but they are excellent tails and very bright. I haven't had a single problem with water or condensation getting in either.

They also make them in a smoke tint as well.

I Would LOVE the first ones but don't have the cashola :(

I would highly recommend going against the ones in your original post. About a couple years back, I ordered those same ones except they were clear not black from CarID, thinking the same as you that they were a lot cheaper than the others. I thought they would look good and they weren't bad on my truck, never leaked but the lighting is terrible. During the day I was told it was basically impossible to see my taillights with the stock bulbs. At night they were more noticeable but still not very bright. Thats one of the bigger reason why I went to LED tails. If you do decided to get those for a cleaner look, I would definitely recommend replacing the incandescents with LED bulbs from SuperBright or V-Leds. That might solve the problem of them not being bright enough. The black does look bad ass tho.

That makes sense. I see chrome ones EVERYWHERE here and the light is drowned out by the chrome itself and sunlight. I suppose ill go with LEDs. We need the C/K type wiring for our trucks, right? How many chips per bulb should i get? 18, 24?

If your talking about upgrading to LED bulbs there is no additional wiring except for the blinker. Since leds draw less power the computer will think the bulbs are blown which cause hyper flashing so you'll need to wire in resistors I believe. I'm not positive tho cuz the back of the tailights are a face plate with wedge bulbs in place. 18 leds should be fine but the more led the better. Just means brighter tails.

Oops i thought you were talking about actual LED bulbs, those f*ckers are expensive, especially the C/K type wiring (which i think is needed for our truck's circuit
boards).

They are pretty expensive for taillight bulbs. I know when I was looking before and hadn't decided to buy the LED tails I was looking on ebay for the bulbs. The quality is hit and miss and you just gotta look for reputable vendors. Vision Technology is awesome, I have them in my bumper lights but I was just looking and the only 3157s they offer in red are 68 SMD LED which probably won't fit, a 40 SMD LED Spider Lite that I'm doubting will fit either, and a 19 LED bulb thats forward facing and has no bulbs around the sides (not recommended for best lighting). For your situation and trying to keep the price down, I would look at one of these three: 1, 2, or 3. All three have a feedback rating of 99%, ship from the US, and the last one is a Top Rated Seller on eBay. Note that these bulbs are sold in pairs not individually. Doing it through eBay will cost anywhere from $22-$50 for the breaklights depending on which bulb you go with which is still less than half the price of the LED tails. You could even get LED reverse lights if desired. Then just use some plastic or headlight restoration cleaner to clean up your taillights to knew.

In the end tho if you could manage to suck it up and spend the $110 for the LED tails I think you would be more satisfied. Brand new taillights and bulbs are hard to beat plus it comes with an new backplate for it which means it plugs into your stock harness and then your done! But I understand your situation cuz I've been there many times as well lol.
