I have a 97 K1500 and was wanting to upgrade my head unit to a nice touchscreen unit. There are ALOT out there and I have alot of options. I just know alot of the flip up single din units lean the screen back, and wasnt sure if they would work in our dash with the lip above our stereos. There are some single din ones that flip the screen down or have the full screen mounted down permanently. But I didnt know how that would fit with the HVAC controls. And then finally there is the daunting task of the Double din conversion, but Im not sure I want to go that far. I dont have too many resources here on base to do some fab work that drastic.

I would like to see everyones conversions they did. Also what head unit/mounting kit/whatever they used. Thanks.

I had a single din flip out in my 96 and it works fine most of those have several angles you can set the screen to. I liked the flip out because if I went somewhere I was concerned I could put the screen in and it looked like a super basic radio so I didn't worry as much about it getting stolen

Thanks. Im probably going to end up going with the SS. I mean, how sturdy are the screens on the flip outs? Ive seen some that just look scheisty as hell and with as much playing I do in my truck, I wasnt sure how well it would handle it. I mean, even my sub box behind my seat I have mounted on little air bags out of some military packs to cushion the blows haha.
