Replacing spider injectors...should I do intake too?

Injectors are going bad on my 97, time to do the MPFI conversion. Here's what I'm looking at:

Due to my limited experience with repairs like this, I took it to my usual mechanic and he mentioned replacing the intake manifold as well. Is this absolutely necessary? Or will I be fine replacing just the injectors?

Gaskets yes manifold no

Has the lower intake gasket been replaced yet? If it has the older gasket design, then it may be worthwhile to pull the intake and put in the newer style gasket.

If you're already into the upper intake, then most of the work getting to the lower intake is already done.
