replacing latch on extended cab side glass

I was wondering if there were any tricks to replacing the latch on the side glass. I would hate to buy the whole window. I did go to the jyard and pulled the latch off a busted glass. It there is a metal hollow peg holding the latch as a pivot, it is cut down lengthwise. I tried squeezing it with needle nose pliers, didnt budge.
