Lol!!! Portal axle way more clearance than ur regular axle
It basically has a transfer case style box on the end of the shafts it's pretty cool :)

Portal axles are awesome.

The kubota tractors use them on the front axle. It's not for lift in that case but to get a very sharp steer angle without fear of binding any cv joints.

Some of them even have the reduction in the hub.

hmm maybe I see the point for a pure offroader. Looks expensive and like it would create a lot a resistance and more to go wrong with all the gears and what not. Cool idea though.
