I recently replaced the power steering pump and resealed the steering gear on the suburban. While researching the job, I saw lots of guidance on eliminating the electronic proportioning valve and just running a straight orifice from an earlier PS pump. I did this and everything seems to function fine. However, every once in a while, usually when sitting still or moving very slowly while making sharp turns, the pump will shudder like it's under volume and the gear is starved for pressure. It's not debilitating, just annoying because I don't think that's the way it's supposed to work. I'm almost ready to put the proportioning valve back in.
Has anyone else removed the valve and experienced this?
