With the temp sender unplugged the gauge should go to zero, if you ground the temp sender wire the gauge should go to full hot. Exact same with the fuel sender.

ok, it did exactly what you said. but does that mean the sensor is good or bad?

alrighty. when i replace that, what kind of sealer do i put on the threads?

Usually it will have sealant on it but if not use Permatex 56521. Just a light coat will do as the sensor grounds from the threads to block contact.
