I recently installed a new set of DRL Square-Chrome Headlights 88-98 GMC C/K. What I am trying to figure out is how to make the DRL Square to operate as the factory DRL setup without the bulb that is in the headlights themselves turning on. (The way the factory DRL in the low beam housing would lights up. )

To be clear I want the DRL Square in the new headlights to work as the original factory DRLs worked!

And it sure would be cool if I could get the DRL Square to blink along with the turn signals. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

I’ve read this multiple times and still don’t understand.

^^^ Agreed. It would help to know if his truck has the DRL wiring already. When were DRLs deployed in GMT400s, 1996?

OP, what year is your truck? What exactly are you referring to when you say "DRL square"?

In any case, consider downloading the FSM for your year and studying the wiring diagrams to determine the wiring changes required to accomplish your objective.

The FSBs can also be found here:

To me, it kinda sounds like OP wants something like the "city light" feature discussed elsewhere on GMT400, with them connected to the blinker circuit.

So, you don’t want the bulb to turn on…

…but you want it to work as the factory DRL’s work?

Then why don’t you want the bulb to turn on?

1999 Tahoe 2dr 2wd. I'm not wanting the bulb on because I'm running LED Headlight Bulbs. The blue outline is the DRL LED Square.

The blue outline is the DRL LED Square.

What you've outlined consists of two separate assemblies, i.e., one headlight assembly and one turn signal assembly. For the record, the headlight is the top assembly of the two, and the turn signal is the bottom of the two.

I've never heard anyone use the term "DRL LED Square". Maybe I'm just too old

Reference picture attached. The headlight, turn signal, and side marker lights are plainly visible.

As for your 1999 2dr, it likely has DRL wiring much like my 1998 Sub, see this post for wiring schematics from the 1998 FSM:

Yeah, I’m still not following you and I agree, some of the terminology is confusing.
I'm not wanting the bulb on because I'm running LED Headlight Bulbs.
I mean, of course your running LED’s now and not using the old bulbs/fixture.

Aside from it using LED’s is the function any different from original function?

Maybe I should just go ahead and wire them up similar to the "city lights" that are talked about in the Arteb Headlights thread.
