Motor identification

Well I pulled the motor out of the truck I bought today. Ipulled the numbers off the back and it just comes up as an 86-94 motor. Is there any other numbers on it that will tell me if its a crate motor or not? I was told it was and still believe it is (to clean not to be) thanks.

passenger side of block at the front of cyl head on block deck there should be a row of stamped numbers and the last 3 or 2 are letters this web link will show you plus gives the list for the letters http://www.nastyz28.com/chevy-engine-code-stampings.php

How is a number on the engine going to id it as a crate motor?
They don't have a specific number cast into them.
They build what they have and crate it up and ship it out.

Why does it matter if its a "crate" motor? The numbers will tell you the displacement and what era the block is...

I was told it was a crate motor I didnt know if there was a way to verify it or not.

there isnt, crate engines usually are rebuilds.

if its a goodwrench or targetmaster its not a rebuilt its a fresh new motor from gm the targets were made in mexico and most were 4 bolt main blocks ,the gw were u.s built lesser chance of it being a 4 bolt main block

my dad had a Goodwrench 350 TBI put in his 1995, was a rebuilt 638 Block...

Thats what I needed to hear. It has a tag on the passenger side head that says Mexico.
