I need to replace all my balljoints. (with moog)

I got the uppers from Oreilly's no problem. But there are apparently two options for the lowers?? Different sizes.

They didn't know how to tell the difference... go figure :nono: ... But I know someone on here will!!

How do I tell which size lower ball joints I need?

I would just take the old one in and show them which one you need.

never knew they had 2 sizes, I was thinking ones press fit and the other bolts in.

regardless have them pull both and look/compare, I don't think anybody can tell you what you have, you'd have to pull one and match it up.

Theres pressed in and bolt in, then theres two depending on if its a 1500 or a 2500-3500. 95 seems to be when they went to press and bolt in 94 and older.

It just depends on if you have a stamped or forged steel lower control arm.

Forged you need the 47.89 mm.
and stamped you need the 45.79 mm.

Most ive seen are stamped.

This is a stamped steel control arm...

I seem to have the same issue I've gotten two that are about an 1/8 to large for the hole and I double checked with calipers with the old one. so i guess i need the 45 mm ones mine looks like stamped steel with a forged end the ball joint was pressed into

There are three lower control arm styles for the 4WD GMT400 trucks.

1. Fully-stamped control arm, bolt-in ball joint. Original joints are riveted, gotta cut the rivets to get the originals out.

2. Partially-stamped, partially-forged arm. Ball joint presses into forged section. I've never actually seen one of these, but I've seen photos. Looks to me like you've got this style.

3. Fully-forged control arm. Ball joint of a different size than #2 presses into the arm.

No matter what style arm you have...you probably want to install fresh control arm bushing in the other end.
