It's all personal preference. I've ran both in the past. The only thing to watch out for with aluminum blocks is make sure it's one solid cast. The ones that are not one solid cast seem to create problems

hmm, well the ones i would buy are pretty sketchy being that i machine aluminum/steel all day at my school. This stuff seems like it would peanut butter when weight is applied.

Go to a junk yard. 99-07 4x4/Z71 nbs chevy and GMCs came factory with a 2" steel block. But you will have to buy longer u-bolts.

T6061 is some tuff stuff. We make big pullys with with rollers on them for sanding belts to polish shafts and they last awhile
