Interior LED Lights

Well after reading a few posts I would like to do LEDs on the interior of my 99 Suburban. The main reason is half my radio lights don't work and is beginning to drive me nuts. So I found some LED bulbs off eBay (because I will admit I am a little cheap) and would like to know if they would work without damaging anything. Also if anyone has a few tricks or pointers for doing this please let me know.
I only pan on doing the radio, dash cluster, and climate controls to start.
This is what I found for the radio, 3mm 12v white LEDs with resistors...

be careful when you do the hvac controls. make sure you unplug it I for got to do that and almost lit the controler on fire
