and i agree on the cam and 1.6 deal, i would just go bigger on the cam and stick to 1.5's, when you go to 1.6's you start changing things.
plus you get no gain with 1.6's if you're already doing a cam swap, just get one that is spec'd like you want with 1.5's and be done with it.

Would it work ok with my 383? The specs on it are on the original
post.
I assume you're referring to the LT4 Hotcam, which is the only hotcam I've ever heard of. I've never run it, however it is spec'd using 1.6 rockers since that is what the LT4's ran. if you take the advice of keeping the 1.5's which I'd suggest, then it would be a little bit smaller than the specs you'll read about. I think there are alot of better choices out there. if you're using the stock heads (i.e. no porting/polishing) then the exhaust flow is where it's lacking the most. I'd probably look for a cam that is a little exhaust biased to help compensate for that. Here are a couple that may be worth looking into, however I'm no 383 expert, so do some good research on whatever you get. you can also contact companies like Comp and they can make some good recomendations based on your specs.
