Is the ecu for a 6 cylinder 4.4 and an 8 cylinder 5.7 basically the same except for the chip?

My son has an 87 that had a 4.3 in it. It now has a 78, carburetored 350 in it. He does not want to go back to a TBI. I thought I might rob the ECU and wiring as a backup for my 90 C1500. I have no clue which P/N ECM he has.

I believe back then everything was a 7747, just the prom or chip is different.
Yep, 1227747 and your VE and SA tables will be different. The 4.3 had 45PPH injectors and the 5.7 had 61PPH ones. It'll probably run but not as efficient as it should. Just swap the EPROMs or find one online that matches your rear end gears so it knows when to engage the TCC, EGR, etc.

Good to know! I'll harvest the ECU and wiring harness for a spare if I ever need any of it.
