1990 K3500
Pics below, please don't make me go out and take more - it's freezing cold and I don't want to wiggle on my back in the grass to get better pictures- ha ha

I'm thinking it's an NP241. I had an 88 n 89 K3500, 454 autos that had the 241. 90 is pretty much same thing. Think they went to the BW in the later years....

I can't remember what the NP or BW looked like but, I can tell you the BW had a history of stretching the chain which would wipe out the oil pump suction tube, and burn it up. I had a 90 F250 HD diesel Super Cab, we bought new, that burned up the Transfer Case at ~100K miles, blew the E4OD trans in ~55K mostly from towing/hauling big loads. Good luck with yours.

BW4401? That is supposed to be one of the best transfer cases available. Known for being tougher and longer lasting than any of the new process cases.

IDK which model it was and, yes BW transfer cases are supposed to be stronger than NPs but, at time time, they were know for this flaw.

Rulling out the NP241/243
A quick googling resulted in these pics:

Output shaft, torks bolts, bolt pattern on mine resembles the BW1372/4401 pictured above:

I'll try and get more pics today after work.

*ignore the red wire - I have removed all the non OEM wiring you see in these pictures back to source. In most cases they were not even connected on either end. Did them one at a time to make sure they were not some sort of bypass wiring on something critical.

That is definitely a BW, you can see the PTO on it that the NPs don’t have. I’m thinking it’s a 1370; at some point they changed the case material to magnesium that’s the main difference.

I think the case in my K3500 is a 4401, and it looks the same as the one pictured; I'll climb under tomorrow and grab some comparison pics and check the tags for confirmation.
