Just finished up with my alarm install. My doors sheet metal is already jacked up from people stealing the truck previously, so I decided it was time to put a good alarm on the truck. Audiovox Prestige APS-997 with remote start, 2-way remotes, shock sensor, tilt sensor, starter kill relay, and headlight supervision. I even added a window trigger for the rear sliding glass. Didn't take any pictures during install, as wiring is pretty boring stuff. Anyway here's a video.

I had my remote start installed at a shop and it never worked consistently. I was poking around and found they never hooked up the tach wire. I think it might be the cause. Where did you pick up the tach signal?

Mines TBI, so its a white wire coming off the coil next to distributor...yours is vortech, but it should be right there at the coil too. Many shops use t-taps, butt-connectors, and a lot of crimp splice type stuff, which will usually fail over time, ESPECIALLY if they dont know how to crimp properly. I soldier EVERYTHING so there won't be an issue. Takes a lot more time, but well worth it in the long run.

I have seen some PROS that dont know how to crimp proper, Seen one truck that was "Professionally done" and all the did was crimp the plastic piece of the butt connector (Very end) so the wire eventually fell out (Within DAYS!)

Most "pros" Ive talked to will solder the Large power wires and crimp all the small gauge signal wires.

Yes, that's sufficient, however a little overkill never hurt anyone for peace of mind. I've been installing as my profession since 2002 up until recently.
