I have a 98 K1500 Heavy Half with the 5.7 Vortec - Love the truck, though a stiff ride with the spring over.

The truck likes to shift early in my opinion, around 2,000 rpms or lower when just driving normally through the city. In order for it to stay high, your foot almost has to be on the floor. This is more noticeable when towing. Even going up a hill, it will not downshift until I give it a lot of gas, or manually force it down on the column. Is that normal for this truck with the 4 speed?

I feel it has the power, but doesn't seem to let it stay high enough to get the maximum torque / HP needed to tow.

Thought, suggestions?

Another thing I noticed is that the quickness is upfront - wonder if is fuel or air related. I recently got a OBD2 scanner so I could provide some numbers if helpful (just point me in the right direction)

Thanks in advance
