I'm going to replace my engine on my 98 K1500 5.7 and don't plan on going back in with the cooler lines.

I have read that you can remove the fittings, plug with 3/8p plugs and remove the cooler bypass valve.

Which valve is the cooler bypass valve? I don't have my engine out yet to want to prepare for it. Thanks

I love oil coolers. We blew the head gasket on our Jaguar at a race. We kept it on track by running 10 laps at a time and refilling the radiator. The final time we put it out on track, I told the driver the end of the race was nearing, and to keep it out until the checkered flag or the engine blew. One the third lap the coolant temp gauge was pegged. He went thirteen laps until the race ended and we drove the car onto the trailer. I will never remove an oil cooler if I don't have to.
