I wouldn't do it but to each his own. I would do a LS swap personally but a built 355 or 383 before the LT1 swap IMO.

Well, I own a '96 Impala SS with the same engine. My thoughts on this are to go for it, especially for the price. As for an LS swap, I've done a lot of research, and it really nickel and dimes you. To do it and make it as functional as my stock engine (in other words, have a/c), I was looking at over $1k in parts for the swap. Also, my Impala does GREAT for a big, full framed, V-8 car on fuel economy. I got around 27 mpg on a trip a little while back.

Like others have said, to each their own. Do your homework.
