Someone sure went through a lot of trouble to avoid replacing a $20 sensor. It kind of looks like RTV was used where it threads into the manifold; a new sensor would have sealant already applied.

This ^^^ no need to apply any kind of sealant to the new sensor. It will have some already on it.

And yes, definitely repair those wire-nut connections properly. Those are sensor and fuel pump relay grounds, so they're pretty important.

The Klein 1005 & 1006 crimp and cut tools will work on those connectors. They cost around $25-$30.
You just have to pay attention to the amount of force you're using.
