I was wondering for my own personal knowledge. After reading several threads I have seen where a couple people have all asked about swapping to 4x4. each post it was pointed out that the suspensions are totally different as well as the frames. What I am wanting to know is could someone not take a 4x4 truck that had a good frame and drivetrain but a bad body and swap the good body from the 2x4 onto the 4x4? I had not seen this mentioned and figured I would ask.
I was thinking in an effort to preserve my vehicle it would be a ultimate project. I could use the donor frame and have it sand blasted as well as covered in por15 topped with semi gloss tractor paint for UV resistance. Next rebuild and replace worn suspension components. Essential what I am talking about would be like a frame off restoration. I could theoretically take my time restoring my truck with hardly any downtime because I could drive it as a 2wheel drive until ready to swap the body onto the restored frame.
Just my thoughts and wondering what your opinions are? I know several people who have done this with the square body trucks so this got me to thinking about our trucks.

Agreed, Plus doing a Solid axle swap would be the shortest and most cost effective path to 4wd in your case. Plus you would get much better off road performance out of an SFA vs the IFS which was geared more for road manners.

Body is the same whether 2wd or 4x4 except for a few minor alterations (ie: floor transfer case shifter hole)
