Changed out tranny with used one didn’t fill torque converter but had some in there already tried starting it up but loud grinding noise occurred what did I do wrong

Did you make sure it was seated ALL the way into the transmission? If not it can cause that noise and it'll destroy your front pump most of times as a consolation prize...lol.

Not filling it up isn't to to bad providing it was most of the way full atleast. Did you fill the transmission first before starting it as well?
