I have a 1995 gmc half ton with the v6. And for some reason when I put it in drive it stays in 3rd. But when I put it in 1st manually it feels like it's a lower gear but it doesn't feel like 1st more like 2nd just because it feels sluggish than it used to when everything was working fine. And with that the tac and speedo quit working. It used to be a intermittent problem but now it's fairly regular. I don't know if this will make a difference but when I bout the truck it was said that the engine came out of a 96. If anybody has an idea please let me know.
