2wd 700r4 in a 4x4? by swapping tailshafts?

Is it possible to swap my 4x4 tailshaft off on to a 2wd 700r4, will this work in my 89 gmc k1500 700r4 original.

I am not following what you are trying to do? The output shaft is shorter on a 4x4. You can't just swap the tail housing, you would have to swap the output shaft as well. That requires a teardown.
