ok so i have a 10 bolt open dif with 3.42 gears and 5 lug half axles

I want a 10 bolt G80 locker with 3.73 gears.

I know of rear end like i want but it has 6 lug half axles.

Can i swap my 5 lug half axles into the rear end with the 6 lug axles? And do the splines on the axles match from open diff to G80?

Pretty sure the axles are different lengths, hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in

if your going through the trouble of swapping rear ends, you should go with a 14 bolt sf rear. Much stronger than a junk 10 bolt. Also the G80 lockers are junk unless you baby the hell out of it.

Width between 2WD and 4WD absolutely different, no way you're getting away with a simple axle swap.

You could put the Gov-Loc carrier and 3.73 gears into your housing, but it's advisable you have someone that is used to working with 10 bolts do this job for you.

Axle splines are compatible as long as the year range is the same. 88-90 were 28 spline; 91-up are 30 spline.

Honestly I'd skip the 10 bolt Gov-Loc, it's not very strong.

Like Jorge suggested, I'd look for a 14 bolt semi-floater; stick to 2WD's, you'll find them only in the light duty C2500. Unfortunately it will still be 6 lug. You can have custom axles made for it by Moser or have a machine shop redrill your axles, and also drill the drums. (There's a 5 lug 14 bolt but that's only in the 454SS, tough to find.) A bonus is it's pretty typical for a 14 bolt from a C2500 light duty to already be 3.73, and quite a few came with the Gov-Loc, which is seems to be more durable in the 14 bolt form. I've got one in my '94 C2500LD with near 180K miles on it and it's not babied, still works OK.

sweet thanks guys for the help. I will probably still get the g80 locker, had one before and I liked it till it blew up of course. And since we have so many gmt400's in junkyards around here in st louis I can just swap it again if it blows up lol Just looking to swap it fast to get it running before school.
