The GMT 800 1500HD were the earliest crew cabs with a "short bed." 6.5' bed.
I read an article and it said it was GM's marketing way of entering the crew cab market since Dodge and Ford were already producing crew cabs in the 1/2 to class.
Those 1500HD are essentially 3/4 tons and look like beasts compared to the regular 1500s. They have the same drivetrains as the 2500HDs, maybe just one less leaf spring or something like that. Basically, they are fake 1/2 tons.
