So I want to do a 2/4 drop on my truck and I was wondering if I can still haul a decent load with 4 inches lower in the rear? I usually haul about 500lbs in the bed and 1500 or so on the trailer. I was just wondering if a 4 inch drop would affect hauling capabilities.

And before you say go 4/6 I can't. Dad won't let me do that at all. I have already asked him.

Also, suggestions for 20 inch wheel backspacing and offset to fit a 255/45/20.

Thanks a ton guys!!

You shouldnt have an issue. I'm 3/5 and i've pulled close to 4500 without an issue. It rode harsh (was hauling a 1000# trailer and a subaru wrx hatch, about double what you're working with) but not unbearable and did the highway fine. Plus I throw engine blocks and haul shop scraps all the time in my truck, not unheard of me to haul upwards of 1000 in the bed.

Did you do a notch? If not does it hit the bump stops on bumps?

A notch is only needed for 6" drop. I put different bunpstops in and there are no issues

I had a 4/6 on my 99 c1500 and it towed fine. Used pull a double axle power washing trailer with 300 Gallons of water just fine. If you are worried I suggest putting on some air bags in the back to help smooth the ride out which is what I did and it made a huge improvement.

I am not a fan of air shocks for carrying a load. Shocks control the ride not support weight. Shock mounts are not made to carry weight therefore. Air bags are a better bet you are then using a system that is designed to do what you are doing.

Fair enough. I am not aware of the laws in the States regarding structual modifications to welding plate/brackets in for airbags but over here it has to be certified by a third party that specialises in vehicle modifications to make your car legal (plus the certifcation costs an extra $300).

I was going to suggest getting an extra leaf from a junkyard if there wasn't enough suspension travel (diff to chassis rail clearance with heavy loads) and air shocks to slow down spring oscillation over bumps which would help it from bottoming out and could be adjusted accordingly.

If airbags are a more cost effective aftermarket solution, by all means...
