I am installing an oem spare tire crossmember. There is a square hole cut into the one end.
Since I'm unsure of the orientation, does it matter whether this lands on the driver's side rear or passenger side forward ?
What is its purpose ?
Bottom line, will the crossmember fit only one way, cause it looks pretty symmetrical to me.

Well after talking with a tech from Rust Buster this afternoon (thanks Jason) I got my answer: the square hole belongs on the passenger side (facing the front cab).
I still don't know the purpose for it.
