    Transmission motor compatibility?

Thanks for all the info. Sounds like at the very least I can re-use my engine just fine, and I'll either have some work to do on the trans/pcm/wiring side, or just get a 93 4x4 trans. I was thinking this would be the opportune time to do a manual swap so may just go that route, assuming I can...

    Transmission motor compatibility?

I'm going from 2wd to 4wd (not 4 to 2). I've read that post several times but I still don't feel comfortable with my understanding of it. Seems like to get different years to work with different years, you have to swap out all sorts of internals and on and on. Let me re-word my original...

    Transmission motor compatibility?

Ok guys. I've read all the compatibility threads but still confused. If I have a 93 4x4 with no tranny or motor, can I put the motor and tranny from a 95 2wd in it? Or do I only put the motor and have to get 93 tranny? Is there something physical about the motors that's year specific like a...

    Can my cab be saved?

My truck was hit before I bought it. Can you guys take a look at the drivers side cab corner/door jam and see if you think I can save it. I know it'll need a corner but want to make sure you think I can smooth out the rest and have enough good metal to attach the corner to. You can also see...

    What are these seats?

Thanks for the info. If I strip them down and they are in good shape, where would I even go to find the right size foam/covers for them? I've never attempted any kind of upholstery so not sure where to even start.

    What are these seats?

Does anyone know what kind of seats these are? I think I'd like them if I could redo them.

Old Glory - new to me 95 RCSB

Thanks. The wheels are brand new. Most everything else is ratted out. Needs just about everything.

Old Glory - new to me 95 RCSB

Finally got an OBS truck again. Yesterday got this for 1000 bucks. It needs a ton of work, but has some good potential. I'm planning on this being my first "frame off" type restoration. Not sure if I'll strip the ENTIRE truck, or try and do bits and pieces at a time so I can drive it here...

    oil leak questions

Well I pulled the trigger. Got it for 13,000 out the door. Now gotta get the 96 sold to help recoup the cost!

    oil leak questions

I found a 2004 silverado 4x4 with 63k miles for 15,000 at a local dealership. Was thinking about offering 12,000 cash and see what he says.

    oil leak questions

I just got it this year so, while I like it, it's not been "MY" truck for a long time or anything. I needed a 4WD on the spot last year and it has filled its need, but now I just gotta decide whether to keep investing in it for the long haul, or cut ties and go a little newer. There's always a...

    oil leak questions

Wow some good replies. I was talking it over with my wife and we are at a stand-still on what to do. We are 50/50 on fixing it, leaving it and just watch the oil level as needed, and selling it to buy a newer truck. I stopped and looked at an '06 today but it had more frame rust than my 96...

    oil leak questions

Can't upload a pic until tomorrow... but I have a leak. Shop said I have an oil pan leak. I looked at it today and it's leaking at the front where the cover (timing chain?) meets the pan, right at the bottom where they meet. Shop said 570 to fix. Is this hard to do yourself? My mechanic buddy...

Transmission leak again - 96 silverado

No the pan looked fine when I did it in May. I talked to the guy at Advanced Auto Parts today and he said he normally uses the rubber kind and sprays some kind of adhesive on it too. So I guess assuming I don't see the leak coming from anywhere else I might try that.

Transmission leak again - 96 silverado

Earlier this year (May) my transmission dumped a big load in my driveway. I replaced the transmission pan seal/gasket (cork, most expensive one advanced auto had). Have had no problems with it leaking since. Well 2 days ago, it dumped again. I don't understand what's going on. It's not a...

    Brake problems 96 chevy z71

Got the brakes fixed over the weekend. I have an ex-mechanic friend who helped me. Looked simple enough but used his help just to be safe. Replaced shoes, cylinders, and hardware, then bled the brakes, and everything is back to normal. My parking brake never really held very well but now...

    Brake problems 96 chevy z71

Hopefully the lines will be OK. They don't look rusted too bad or anything. I won't get to start working on it til the weekend, so I'm spraying some PB blaster on it every day to hopefully loosen everything up.

    Brake problems 96 chevy z71

Found the problem. The passenger wheel cylinder is leaking. Saw some fluid dripping from the drum onto the wheel/tire, so I pulled the wheel and drum off and it was EVERYWHERE. The drum was in good shape surprisingly so I'm going to order shoes/cylinders/hardware. That should get me going...

    Brake problems 96 chevy z71

Assuming none of the lines are leaking anywhere, and I ended up replacing the rears, what all do I need to buy? When I did the fronts I replaced calipers, pads, rotors. What are all the components of the rears?

    Brake problems 96 chevy z71

Thanks for the tips guys. I am hoping to have enough time tonight to start inspecting everything and see what happens. I'll post back my findings tomorrow.

    Brake problems 96 chevy z71

Thanks scrufdog. Sounds like a good list to start with. When I changed out the front brakes, I just remembered that my buddy who helped me (used to be a mechanic) said the little valve or whatever it's called on the rears, that you open to bleed them, were in bad shape. If for some reason I...

    Brake problems 96 chevy z71

I replaced the pads/rotors/calipers on the front brakes earlier this year. Rears are pretty old/rusty/crappy looking. Everything's been fine until now. Yesterday I got a trailer load of gravel. When I went to turn onto my street (off a major highway - 55mph), I couldn't stop enough to make...

    Transmission leak... what size pan?

One more question, how many ft-lbs should I torque the bolts back on when I re-install? I know it's important not to over-tighten and dimple the pan.

    Transmission leak... what size pan?

Looks like it's the shallow pan. Thanks for the help guys. Now to buy all the stuff and find some time to do the actual work...............
