    Y pipe differences

Thanks for the replies. I'm hoping to be able to use the Y pipe that's already there. What about intake gaskets for the GMPP intake? I'm guessing stock Vortec gaskets? Also, I've never seen this mentioned- since my truck has the SM465 trans, I know that a 12" clutch and flywheel will bolt to...

    Y pipe differences

Hello everyone. I am gathering parts to get ready to do the engine swap in my beater. My truck- '88 K2500 6 lug, 5.7 TBI, SM465 trans. My donor engine is from a '98 K2500 8 lug, it was a factory crate replacement engine that has about 55K on it. I have snagged a GM performance intake so that I...

    '98 Vortec into a '88 K2500, retaining the TBI

Hello everyone, I've been doing my due diligence by reading all that I can find on the topic, quiet a few threads have popped up with a ton of solid tech information. A quick summary of what I need to do: my '88 K2500 needs a heart transplant. IN October I did a HC test, the fluid turned green...

    1988 K2500 courtesy lights/dome light problems

I honestly don't remember where I got them on the site, I think tat one of the other members gave me a link to the schematics but they are a "sticky" somewhere in here. I know that doesn't help you very much. As for @Silverado68 , have you tried running a jumper cable ( or use a power probe)...

    Firewood truck

I've been posting in the 'introduction' section, so it's time to start a thread in here. I guess that this is the best place as my truck isn't a restoration project or an off-road toy, it's just a crusty beater that I got for a few hundred bucks in March (2023).. I set a budget and have been...

    1994 K1500 6 lug front axle to 2500 6 lug

6 lug front diffs are the same between K1500 and 6 lug K2500. ( just be sure that the gear ratios match) I used one from a from a K1500 when I found mine was destroyed in my '88 K2500 6 lug. Absolute bolt in procedure, just a PIA to do by yourself. The diffy assembly isn't too heavy, just...

    backlit dash switches?

I was driving the firewood truck the other night, 1st time driving it when it's pitch dark outside. I couldn't help but notice that it was also pretty dark around the dash board. Should the HVAC and headlight switch be backlit when running/head lights are on? 1988 K2500

    Introduction

Hello everyone, just a small update. I've been driving the truck a bit, mainly for lumber runs and a dump run. Besides a small oil leak burning on the exhaust, the main issue has been the hydro clutch is already starting to fail. I had it in gear w/ the clutch pressed in and very quickly I...

    1988 K2500 courtesy lights/dome light problems

I found them in this site, they're stickied somewhere. yes, the electrics are working as they should. The speedo is still dead a lot more then it works, and when it "works" it's still off by about 10mph ( compared to Garmin GPS ). I had the doors apart recently, installing new lock cylinders...

3/4 ton shocks on 1/2 ton 96 yukon

When I was looking at shocks for my firewood truck, I dove into the tech info on Rockauto being curious at the different p/n's for front shocks for the K2500, based on GVW. The AC Delco, Gabriel, Monroe, Rancho 5000's and KYB all had different p/n's based on the GVW, and the 8200 GVW ( my truck...

3/4 ton shocks on 1/2 ton 96 yukon

When I was looking at the specs for the compressed/extended lengths for shocks, I found that the HD 3/4 t ( 8600# GVW) had front shocks that had almost 1" less travel compared to the same model of shock made for a LD 3/4T ( 8200# GVW) or K1500.

    1988 K2500 courtesy lights/dome light problems

It took a bit of head scratching, but I got onto the trail of the root cause and found this. someone has been here before! Once I got the wires cut back to clean material, a good solder and shrink tube repair later and everything is finally working like it should. I did take the dome light...

    1988 K2500 courtesy lights/dome light problems

@ GTG- thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the owners manual didn't come with the 35 year old truck. I have downloaded the wiring diagrams from this website, as mentioned. They didn't come with a self diagnostic tool, so I ask for help when I need some clarification. Thanks for explaining how...

    1988 K2500 courtesy lights/dome light problems

Thanks for that info, it helped on the trouble shooting. Have you tested the door jam switches? When they go bad, it can keep the lights from turning on. The schematics that I got from this site were very helpful. I got power up to the overhead courtesy lights, I'm just not sure if they are...

    1988 K2500 courtesy lights/dome light problems

Hello everyone. I'm trying to track down an odd issue with my beater truck. It appears that the over head map lights/dome light don't work and the lower dash curtsey lights & glove box light are constantly hot. I will start with, I have downloaded the great wiring diagrams that are posted in...

    Knock Sensor question

Hey everyone, I was under the truck earlier this week replacing the steel/rubber hydro clutch line at the slave cylinder, I happened to notice a sensor that was broken and next to the starter. I looked at it for a minute then it dawned on me- that must be where the "spare" electrical connector...

Are there any on-line sources for wiring diagrams? I'm trying to track down why the interior lights/map lights don't work. There is juice on both sides of the fuse, past that I have no idea where anything goes. I imagine that when the dimmer switch goes past the "click" detent, the interior...

I can't say if they are all like that, but there were a bunch of similar stories in the reviews at Amazon about the gas magnums. I would have been happy to try a replacement set, as I have a few friends with commercial 1 ton trucks and they run the shocks w/o any issues. The Monroe C/S rep told...

    Introduction

I only have a few miles on them ( less then 100 for sure) but they seem to work well. They don't bounce when going over speed bumps. I had a good bit of 6x6 x12 posts in the bed, even with the rear squatting a bit they handled bumps really well. I was going to get Rancho RS5000's, they were a...

    Introduction

Hello, I wanted to do an introduction post for myself. I recently got a 1988 K2500 ( 6 lug) reg cab 8' bed truck to use as a beater/heavy towing rig. It's not what anyone might consider a 'nice' truck, but it isn't a full blown rot-mobile either. It sat for a while in the grass next to the PO...
