    Yep tried that already and couldn't find anything. that is why I am leaning towards the harmonic balancer as its on the outside of the engine and really wouldn't be able to pinpoint it with the stethoscope trick.

    again it is not an exhaust leak. trust me on this I have take the manifold off and replaced both the manifold gasket and doughnut gasket. also scrubbed down the manifold with a wire brush and there is no crack in the manifold.     Over the Christmas Weekend- I got 16.5 MPG for the 300 Mile highway trip cruising at 72-74 MPH Then got 12.5 on the way back because of a nice strong wind I was driving into and cross wind at times.
