Hey, just joined the forum but i have years of GMT400 experience. Bought my 2 door 98 4x4 tahoe in 2000 and still drive it everyday to work. 310k and still rolling. Of course i have replaced this and that over the years. I would like to get some feed back on the vortec engine and why gm didnt use the TPI induction system versus the central sequential induction system. I have owned a 87 Iroc in the past and thought the TPI was a good unit. Thanks for letting me join.

Welcome to the forum. That is a good question about TPI. I do know that CPI is an improvement over TBI, or that was the thinking at the time of the Vortec engines, 1996 to 1998, ect. It makes me wonder, if you could do a swap on a Vortec to TPI. The blocks should be close enough to except the TPI system. A bood set of heads, and a good cam, and you could have something.

Thanks for the welcome. I looked into it one time, i never found a TPI intake that would fit the vortec heads. Im sure it could be made to work with some welding and re-drilling.

I thought GM should have just left the 96+ trucks tbi. Use the gmpp intake they still sell and the big block tbi and kept things simple for the trucks.

Ah, Charlie, you beat me to it! Oh, and BTW, TPI works excellently on Vortec trucks. It works even better when you do the 411 ECM swap. And you dont need to change heads-you already have Vortecs. I would put and LT1 roller cam in it though-really wakes it up and you dont lose any low end torque.

Thanks for the information. I have looked into some different combos for my truck when i need to rebuild the engine. I have 309K on the engine now, but im not using any oil and it still runs good so it will stay for the time being. The LT1 cam is a good idea and Im still considering the TPI set up. Lots of good knowledge on this forum and I appreciate the responses. Does the PCM you mentioned require any tuning to use? I havent done any research on that PCM, but I will. Thanks
