I’m a DA…what maintenance have you screwed up?

A LONG time ago in a town not too far away i have to admit. I was in my early 20s working on a 1973? Mercury Capri with a V6. For some reason i remember it being a German V6, I had put new rods and main bearings in it from Underneath. Finally had the oil pan on and engine bolted back up...

Seem odd. My FPR had a 1 1/2in piece of vacuum hose that hooked to the back of the lower intake.

Found this pic of mine. After changing mine a couple of times, I found the best place to pry is where the red arrows point.

Put a drop of oil on the clips where you need to gently pry them off.

What do you mean 4 psi low with return line punched off? If the fuel pump return line is actually pinched off the pressure should jump to over 70PSI. Mine went up over 80 PSI with a new pump. If you are 4 PSI low with the return line pinched off your fuel pump is shot or fuel filter is almost...

After thinking about this a minute, I don't think you had the lines pinched off totally. If you had a pressure line pinched off, you would get 0 pressure reading. If you pinch the other off, you should get way more pressure.

Either way the pressure when testing a pinched off return line should be over 70PSI. If it bleeds off that much with the return line pinched, you mostly likely have bad injectors or less likely but possible to have a bad line in the tank at the pump or a bad check valve at the pump or just a...

    GOT a van!

Drove it to work and home with a little town/hwy driving. Nothing changed. Still idles the same (smooth) starts the same and feels the same driving. Im sure new plugs have helped something, what though, i dunno.

    GOT a van!

The misfires were so few that in my experience, it never would have set a code.

    GOT a van!

Well i was wondering if i should or not after selling my suburban but after thinking about it the van is more or less, mostly a GMT 400. The new plugs were gapped at .060. I have messed with plug gaps on the same 7.4l before and did not see any real difference so i just left em alone.

    GOT a van!

Changed the spark plugs today. Had a few random misfires according to the scanner. I could not tell when driving as it's smooth running engine. The old plugs were shot!. Almost all the gaps measured .075 to .085, One measured .050. Did not drive it after the change so i'll see how it runs tomorrow.

Just because a vehicle was not sold in CA does not mean it can't have CA emissions. The only way to know for sure is RPO codes.

Here is what i would do. Hook up a fuel pressure gauge. Pinch off the return line under the driver's door inside the frame rail. Turn the key on and if the pressure jumps over 80PSI, your pump is probably ok. If the fuel pump can build that pressure then you have a bad/wrong FPR. The bleeding...

Many are listed as fitting, but most are the wrong pressure. I would not order a single one unless the pressure is listed in the description so you know it's the proper one. I ordered 3 or 4 before i found the proper one.

Be careful on what FPR you order. Several wrong ones will fit, but only a few have the proper pressure and i can not remember the number of the proper one.
