I own a 1988 GMC K1500 Standard Cab Long bed. Came with 5.0 but swapped to 5.7 with carb and removed F.R.E.D. completely. GM crate long block, Edelbrock 2401 under an Edelbrock 1406 Carb, 1" phenolic spacer to eliminate the fuel boil. Pacesetter headers, 3" Y pipe to Flowmaster 40 series. 25 gallon tank, stock fuel pump to the return style pressure regulator. Accel HEI distributor, adjustable vacuum advance but currently not hooked up. I drive from south Jersey to Northwest Ohio with it every 6 weeks and this truck handles great even at speeds over 100. Everything works in it, all the lights. I had to ditch the stock AM/FM radio and put a nice JVC head unit above the center vent. Retrofitted to R-134a, and I tuned it to blow as cold as possible without freezing the evaporator. Roughly 170K on everything else. Moonie cluster and I love it and used the DIP switch mod to calibrate it. Runs great, with the carb I'm getting roughly 16-18 mpg (yes 16-18). About 15K miles on my 700r4 and about 10K on the new engine. I did all the work on the truck, only go to shops for alignment and to put the new transmission in. I'm a student in college for my Associates degree in Automotive and certification for alternate fuels. Any questions on the truck or how I did anything, feel free to send a message. I also have almost every stock GM pigtail/connector left over so if you happen to be missing some or other computer related parts contact me Ill be more than happy to help you out and send you what you need.
