    Fuel pressure regulator leaking internally?

You can have long crank issues for several reasons besides fuel pump issues. While I have heard people lament that fuel pressure should hold for some period of time when the pump stops running, as a 40+ year ASE Master L1 tech specializing in Domestic vehicles I have NEVER found pressure fall...

    Why no TBI Engine thread?

What rear gear do you have? How old is the O2 sensor? You could try disconnecting the EGR valve for a tank or two, that may help a little. Make sure timing is up to *****, and even add 2-4 degrees. How big are your tires? Larger diameter tires will actually cause you to travel further than...

    Why no TBI Engine thread?

Here's a different viewpoint. I personally would take a factory bone stock TBI K motor over ANYTHING else for certain aspects. They were MORE dependable than anything I ever saw before or since. If I needed the least expensive to maintain truck that could go 300,000 miles it would be a K 350...

    Rough running 7.4 Vortec

ASSUMING the scanner you ordered is fairly capable, there should be a section for misfire data. I don't know what machine you have ordered or how it is laid out, but that data should be fairly easy to find if it is there. One thing that you will possibly want to do is drive it and watch the...

    Rough running 7.4 Vortec

You need a scanner, and look at misfire data to confirm that what you are feeling is actually a miss. And if you do have a miss, it should be able to pick out which cylinder, and then you can narrow it down from there. Also know that aftermarket distributor caps are HORRIBLE, and prone to...

    Aftermarket EFI on Vortec 454

99% of the time when someone "fixes" their vehicle by taking off some relatively well engineered (but admittedly not always perfect) factory system and installing an aftermarket system, what they end up with is a cobbled mess that doesn't work NEAR as well as stock, and is less dependable by...

    350TBI 1500RPM engine knock

Since the trans was recently R&Rd, it's far more likely that the bolts weren't tightened properly than the possibility of a cracked flexplate, which is rare on that combination. And he won't think much of the loose TC bolts if he doesn't know that can create his noise. Tom

    350TBI 1500RPM engine knock

Stop EVERYTHING! The torque converter bolts aren't tight. This will make noise just like a rod knock, but it will come and go under the exact circumstances you described. 10 minute fix. Tom

    Cooling system mess...help me out

They are in the middle of the sides of the block, 2-3 inches above the oil pan/block. They are a little harder to see on a 4wd on the left side. Some years, the knock sensor is screwed in the block in place of the plug on some GM motors. Don't remember if the did it that way on this year for...

    Cooling system mess...help me out

Much of them remaining sediment is at the bottom of the block and in the heater core. Remove the heater hoses from the eng. and radiator and flush the heater core. Also, and more important, there is a 9/16 hex pipe plug screwed into the block in the middle, one on each side, just above the oil...

    94 c1500 sputter help!

EGR valves in that era on the truck engine were known for having a failure mode where the EGR went full open instead of opening varying amounts, and would cause hesitation and stumbling in the lower rpms. It's easy to unplug the vacuum line and see if the problem goes away. Tom

    Best Power for Money

Just remember, there's no such thing as a free lunch. Anything you gain in power you will lose somewhere else in mileage, drivability, or dependability. I never thought those 350 TBI's were gutless, at least running properly. It's a truck. It weighs 4000 lbs. +. It isn't a Camaro. Every time...

    Name that sound!

It's a big end rod bearing that is on the loose side. It shuts up when it gets oil pressure. It might run for years like that if you drive it normal. I've serviced cars and trucks for 35 years. It is not uncommon to hear many rods , just a few, or none, rattle on initial startup after an oil...

'96 randomly runs like crap, then fine

I have seen P1345 when the distributor needs to be adjusted to synch the cam/crank correlation. Start there first. Tom
