So for those that want to know. talked with a 350 engine builder earlier today and had some insight for me.
the very bottom hole in the picture had exhaust coming out of it. turns out that there is a head bolt that goes down into the back end of that hole. So it appears that either the had...
So took the alternator bracket out and took the belt off and started the truck and was able to locate the source of the sound and air. Its coming from below the passenger side water pump mounting location.
Any ideas what that could be. it appears to be a tapped hole but now has exhaust coming...
So took the fan clutch and fan off and found at least the next area i will be looking
Im thinking if i take the alternator, alternator bracket, pulley tensioner, water pump off i should be able to get a much better look at where this is coming from. So that may happen tomorrow or slowly...
Yep tried that already and couldn't find anything. that is why I am leaning towards the harmonic balancer as its on the outside of the engine and really wouldn't be able to pinpoint it with the stethoscope trick.
again it is not an exhaust leak. trust me on this I have take the manifold off and replaced both the manifold gasket and doughnut gasket. also scrubbed down the manifold with a wire brush and there is no crack in the manifold.
Im going to take the valve cover off the passenger side this weekend...

So about a week ago truck started to make a noise. sounds like an air pump with the hood open. seems to be coming from the passenger side and towards the front of the engine. truck is still driveable with the noise but the noise is getting louder and louder each day it...
Exactly its only when there is no load on the drivetrain.
Is there a way to check the rear diff bearings?
I assume pull the cover but never had to check this before so don't know anything after that.
Basically if i am on the highway and cruising any where from 45-70 MPH with me controlling the pedal there is no vibration. Once i let go of the gas pedal maybe .5 seconds later the vibration starts. last for about 2-3 seconds at most and then goes away.
the vibration is there regardless of me...
I was thinking along the lines of the trans mount also.
Any body ever replaced a trans mount on one of these as I never have and cant seem to find a how to on replacing it.
I don't think you saw my updated post in the thread
****Okay so update on this. Ended up pulling the driveshaft back off and checking the front u joint again and appears either I got a faulty u joint or installed it wrong. Either way it got replaced. and now new symptoms sort of.
So what is...

So its not u joints. Replaced them this weekend. Luckly the prior owner replaced them at some point prior so I didn't have to melt them out. but driving to work this morning the vibration is still there.
One thing I am noticing is that it gets worse with speed now. as in around 40 -50 MPH it is...
