Belt Squeak is driving me crazy

I recently replaced my power steering pump. When reinstalling the pulley, I aligned it flush as per the GM manual. I guess the shaft on the new pump must have been slightly different as the pulley was too close to the engine and out of plane with the other pulleys. Had to pull it back off...

    Diagnosing accessory clicking when hot

I did spin them all by hand with the belt off. Everything seemed smooth. No noise or rough spots that I noticed. Good idea on the stethoscope. I don’t have one but will pick one up.

    Diagnosing accessory clicking when hot

I recently completed my new engine install. Everything went fairly well and started up without issue. As soon as it started though, I notice the belt chirping. I assumed I'd probably contaminated the belt with some oil or coolant and didn't think much of it. With the engine install, I also...

    Vortec intake manifold pitting

I’m now wondering if I should get the fiber gaskets instead and roll with some RTV. The metal core Fel-Pro gaskets I currently have say to never use RTV with them. It’s also quite possible I’m overthinking this. Just really not liking the thought of possibly having to pull this again in the...

    Vortec intake manifold pitting

I used one of the white 3M Roloc disks. It has a bunch of little “fingers” on it. I think they call it a bristle disc. Hopefully that wasn’t a mistake. I think I’ll try to go the epoxy route, sand flat, then use the gel-pro gaskets I’ve got.

    Vortec intake manifold pitting

If I go for the RTV, would I just smear a thin amount around the water ports then pop it together with the gaskets like normal?

    Vortec intake manifold pitting

Hi all. I'm in the process of putting a new crate engine in my 1997 Tahoe. I'm going with a stock 5.7 Vortec (L31), but I need to re-use the intake manifold from my old engine. The intake manifold was not leaking when I removed it. After cleaning it up, I noticed pitting around most of the...

    New pitman arm

Thanks for all the responses! Makes me feel a little better about the torque. Should I be concerned if there is a little more gap between the steering housing and the new pitman arm compared to the old one?

    New pitman arm

I’ve seen several posts about installing new pitman arms to the steering box. Some folks say they just hit the nut with an impact and call it a day. Others say they torque it to the 184 ft-lb. I’ve got the engine pulled so doing some other work while I have easy access. How the hell do you...

    Corrosion concerns with removed engine

Hi! I'm relatively new to the forum but have already found it extremely helpful. I'm preparing to remove the engine from my 1997 Tahoe. It's got numerous oil leaks that are only getting worse. My plan is to just pull the engine and replace all of the seals/gaskets. This may be a dumb question...
