So who's the best manufacturer to purchase one from? And is a Detroit locker for the rear worth the money, or should I just get a full-on spool?
Ford haha 75.5-79 Ford axle. You can't run a spool on the street if it's strictly a mud toy go with a spool

It's not going to be strictly mud, it'll be my work truck. And I'd like to go bigger than 35's, I think 44's would be damn sexy. I just don't know if I can foot the cost, or pay for wear and tear from going that big. So where's the best place to buy a Ford axle, and how complicated is the swap?

A little searching will go a long way. There are some good sas threads here and somewhere a link to the kit you need for the swap.

4 link and coils still won't equal 6k. Unless your buying a brand new axle and stuff all new.

With that kind of cost, I'm further ahead buying the IFS lift kit and leaving it at that.
