Can't help but wonder if the bearings are different. Maybe not "$100 different" but different enough that one's likely to last much longer than the other.

But how does one tell? Crap...
I still stand by my statement “at least some reason why one is $100 more”. I didn’t quantify exactly how much better for an extra $100, but if your ok with a $38 water pump in “your” truck I am too.

ACDelco has several tiers for their parts: Silver, Gold/Professional, and OEM. Of course the Silver line is going to be their economy line, Gold/Professional is their mid-tier, and OEM is going to be the top tier, usually better quality. For my 350 build, I bought the ACDelco Professional 252-711 water pump on Amazon for like $36, and got it painted orange.

Yeah, I usually ask myself "How much would I be willing to pay to NOT replace this part again in the next 3-5 years?" If my answer is greater than the price difference, I'll get the more expensive part.

I usually get the more expensive part.

And what other damage could the less expensive part cause?

Well you could be changing the water pump in the driveway during cold weather again, like I had to do.

Didn't we have someone here have a pump casting come apart and take out a radiator? I'd assume that to be rare, and having to change the pump again in the winter would be my biggest concern.

I think the same way. I’d rather pay more for peace of mind. But it’s always a crap shot anyway.

Ok, decision made and part ordered! Who says you can’t buy car parts from Walmart?? Lol

I found the cheapest price, plus free shipping for the OEM part from those guys. Plus it should be here in a couple of days. The pictures show that it’s painted black, but that remains to be seen.

I’ll post pics once I get it of the actual part and also where it was manufactured. As always, thanks for all of the help and info.

This here is the answer. Although I've also seen an ACDelco "Advantage" line which I believe is in the same lower tier category as the "Silver."

IMO good call going with the OEM part, I do so whenever possible. While it's true that a good chunk of the OEM GM/ACDelco parts are now coming from China, I strongly believe that you're more likely to get a better part going with OEM over any of the other lines. Reason being someone at GM chose those Chinese suppliers for their top tier OEM parts. I can't imagine they'd let quality control slip too badly without switching suppliers.
