Today i installed a personal headunit. Finally one of my own (farenheit tid893b), installed like 8 of my friends, and when wiring the harnesses i had a light bulb moment. Btw the headunits killer for 200$. Single din with a 7in screen means no cutting.

But on to what my question is. Being the radio only turns on when the truck is on, could i splice and hard wire my cobra to the power/ ground of the radio to power my radar so i dont have to worry about it?

I know escorts can be retrofitted to the dash of cars ie my friends turbo s and my others a4. So is this how they do it?

Yeah I wired mine to come on with the key.

I used a on/off signal from the power rear view mirror and used 12v from the map lights. I hid the relay in the overhead console.

The dash display is a audi only thing IIRC.

So you stole the power from the dome lights in the overhead console and took the on/off from the mirror how? Im not terrible good at wiring

Use a test light to find the wire on the back of the rearview mirror that turns on with the key.

Then use 12v power from the map lights. IIRC it's the orange wire.

If you removed the warning chime box from your truck, you can easily grab power there too.

Thanks boys. As soon as my dad returns with all his tools ill retrofit and hardhire my Cobra into the top. I have an extra plug up top so im sure theres a constant power line in that and hopefully theres a on off wire.
Much appreciated
