I have a 1994 2500 4x4 (8 lug ) and I was just wondering what the difference between a 3500 4x4 and my 2500 is?

3500 could also get a small block8-lug to 8-lug, the differences are mostly incremental. Same basic leaf springs, though the 3500 does get the overload leaf option due to the increased weight ratings. A 2500 can get a small block, big block, or diesel like the 1 ton, semi float or full float axles.
The reason for the existence of the 2500 is a heavy duty truck that is able to tow/haul but stay under 10,000 GVWR. 10,001 and over requires the truck to submit to weigh stations, and pay highway use taxes.

Yes the frame in my big truck is stout, but with 21' of Chevy to carry, it needs to be!Usually there is a step up in frame when going to 3500. While 1500 and 2500 share same frame dimensions(with slight differences in 2500)
I believe the frames on yours were also used as the iron work for small buildings.Yes the frame in my big truck is stout, but with 21' of Chevy to carry, it needs to be!
