What kind of prep work do you have to do to rocker panels before you bed line them?

Looking at possibly putting herculiner on my rocker panels. What kind of prep work do you do to the body?

Scuff it up and roll on.....

Scuff it up till the gloss is gone then roll, brush, spray it on.
