Shifter cable bind need some info

hey guys I just got a 1995 gmc 1500 4x4. It was converted from a long bed to a short bed and it also has a 3in body lift. My problem is the shifter cable broke. I went to autozone and got a new one. no big deal. well when i installed it the cable seemed to long and it binds up. where the cable locks in place the plactic clips broke. Is there a special cable u have to buy with a body lift?

well I tryed a different new cable from autozone again and the cable is too long. This truck came from factory with a 4.3 and was swaped to a 350. Would the cables be different or maybe the colums be different? need help or gunna order a floor shifter instead.
