Weird. My 95 k1500 the light always comes on if the fluid is lower than half and I hit the brakes, and it will turn off when the pedal comes up. Like you said yours did. Just figured it would stay on if the fluid was lower. I haven't actually tried it, always topped it off anytime the light came on. Now that my brakes are fixed I'm not topping off the fluid anymore.
