Question on HVAC controls

Okay so i don't have a owners manual and i can't really see what the reasoning is for this but here is what it does. When i push the button to change the airflow from like the floor to vents or defrost, if i just hit the button once it goes clear from top to bottom or vice versa, there is no inbetween. so i can't have it on my feet and face at the same time, its annoying. Is this something our trucks do or is there a issue i can resolve quickly? BTW 92 C1500 w/ac

If your going from vent to floor click the floor button again as it moves down to the point you want it to stop. Goes the same from floor to vent or floor to defrost.So whatever direction it is going hit that button again to make it stop.
