Oil pump help on 1990 chevy c1500 v6

when getting a new oil pump do i have to replace the retainer shaft, pressure relief valve and the pressure relief springs, the drive gears etc... ?

The only thing you will have to replace will be the pickup assembly and the plastic collar that connects the shaft to the pump. There is a tool for driving the pickup tube into the pump, but I have used an open-end wrench that fits snugly around the tube to tap them in lots of times.

I should have mentioned that the distance that that the sump is off the bottom of the pan is important. Too low and it it will not pick up oil properly and too high it can suck air if your oil is low or you corner hard.
