I’m completely restoring a 1990 gmc k1500 5 speed manual.

I’m eventually going to do a 6.0 swap? Has anyone ever mated up a nv5600 to a lq9. Also more specifically, has anyone ever done it in an OBS. Just wondering about mounting it, making it to the 6.0, and how the interior situation would be. I want it to look as oem as possible inside.

Iv looked at trannys as iv been told my tranny is not going to hold up to a 6.0 with cam, heads, intake… t56 sounds good except iv heard the ratios are a little weird for trucks. The nv5600 seems beefier than my tranny and they came in trucks so it should be a nice driving tranny.

Or will a nv4500 hold up? It’s not a crazy build but I do want a future proof tranny. (Boost in the future???)

Nope, impossible. You should sell me the 5600 and move on.

What tranny do you have now? T56 ratios are not very trucky, but the GTO box is a little better suited to the cause (2.97 vs 2.66 1st). That with some 4.10 gears would have you on your way. But a 4wd T56 ain't gonna be cheap. Last I checked Rockland Standard gear made the adapter for it.

You beat me to the punch. I don't see why a 4500 wouldn't hold up. A guy I race with has a 6.0 with Whipple and 4500 and loves it.

NV4500 is great for dump trucks from what I've heard.

Look into a TKX. I know someone out there (maybe Silver State) sells a complete kit with everything you need to swap.

EDIT: never mind, Didn't see that about 4WD
