x2 on what @Wiscoburban said. Seems like most vehicles after 2000 were made cheaper.

My uncle has a GMT800 99 1500, average rust on the body (rockers are just about gone and cab corners are just about gone, not sure what the fenders look like since they are covered by flares), but frame already rusted out, I think it has under 200k miles. My 97 is rustier than it, and my frame is still decent.
His 99 would be a perfect candidate for a 5.3 swap. :flamingdevil:

Cheaper is only part of it. The frames got beefier so they had to shed the weight somehow. Fenders don't do crap for you in a wreck anyway.

Woke her up from the winter nap a couple weeks ago and just turned 161,000 now. Still runs excellent over winter she got a new water pump and thermostat and belt.

Nice! Still has plenty of life in her...if you can keep the rust under control.

Around here the GMT 800s get scrapped for parts just 'cause they are a little old. Guys part them out in their backyards. First thing that goes is engine. Tranmission if it's good....hood, fenders, etc.

Sadly, rust-free frames I'm sure get sent to the scrap metal places.

Did a nice light duty cruise today before I go into work tonight. Went to target and the local apple orchard to get some early season apples that are in.
