I'm going to be replacing my front steering and suspension parts real soon.but I'm taking some like new parts from the junk yard. My question is if its a rwd 3/4 ton would any year gmt400 be compatible and if not wich years would fit an 89

I’m pretty sure the R1500/2500 are not a part of the GMT400 series. It ran in parallel with it. So engine and transmission should be identical to the same year. But all body and suspension parts should be compatible with the 1973-1987 pickups and 1973-1991 Suburbans.
I couldn’t tell you for sure which parts will or won’t interchange between pickups and suburbans. But GM was pretty good at never retooling unless absolutely necessary.

Yes the square body stuff is what you need. I used to have a 90 R2500, was a good truck once l got the front end rebuilt. The skinny tires on the 8600gvw package wandered all over until it was fixed.
