Motor swap

I am think of swapping out my old 350 on my 1997 tahoe K1500 LT for a HT383E an easy swap then the price of the motor got me.
I told a buddy of mine what I was wanting to do and he suggested I should look into doing an LS swap with an LQ 4 - 9 or a 5.3 truck motor, parts are cheap and you gain a lot of HP and TQ, and change the now computer with a 411.
Has anyone done this type of swap before and what the cost and comparison would be between the these motors would be nowing both have iron blocks.

First Guess: Taking out a 350 in favor of a 5.3L is a step backwards; unless you plan to modify / supercharge the 5.3L.
